I do not know the answer you are looking for.  I DO know that I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 on someones laptop.  When we plugged in the USB 3G modem from Verizon, it was recognized.  A popup asked what carrier and after we selected Verizon we had only to answer a couple of questions for it to work.  I did not do any checking about how it might handle power saving in a battery mode.<br>

I unfortunately have not written an scripts yet but I thought of a usefull one if it is not already in the open.<br>

I would like a script that automatically connects to my Cricket Wireless Connection while turning off my wireless to conserve that power when on battery mode triggered by plugging in my usb broadband modem.<br>

Is there something out there like that? Or is there someone willing to write it?<br>
