Windows 8 gets allot better with classicshell.net or stardocks start8. I also found modernmix was another large improvement.

I have a Windows 8 laptop on order.

I would like to run Ubuntu as a guest on a virtual machine.  What are some good candidates?  It doesn't have to be free, but VMware for Workstations would be overkill at this point.  Is Oracle still developing Virtual Box?

Trent,

You might find that Win8 is more of a "tablet" OS and without the touch screen it's not really what you need?

In that case you can install Ubuntu (if you like the Unity Desktop) after imaging it or dual boot install (Ubuntu provides for this trivially).

Personally, my Windows systems are so slow I prefer using Linux on everything.
