The only time Dolphin goes to a different size is when I restore it from being maximized.  I can go into system settings and display doesn't list the vga output, It lists DVI-I-0 and lists nothing for it.  Then it shows DVI-I-1 and says it's connected.  It doesn't list the vga output which is connected.  Maybe that has something to do with it.  I won't worry about it too much right now.  I'll keep trying to find something in the kernel parameters that I can use to stop this thing from locking up.

Thanks

That's weird.  I wonder if there is something to the previous suggestion about other screens and maybe how they overlap.  The only other thing that I've seen that would do stuff like that to windows is a stray panel, perhaps on that got shoved off the side of the screen.

If you ALWAYS want it to start at a particular size you could change the setting from "Remember" to "Apply Initially" and then it won't matter what size it was when it was closed.

Thanks for the idea.  I tried it and closed Dolphin.  When I opened it
again, it was the right size.  I closed and opened it again.  It
remembers the size.  When I double click on the title bar to maximize
it, and again to restore it, Dolphin still goes back to the the shorter
size.

If I understand what you are trying to do it should be working
correctly to start with but...

Try this... launch dolphin and set it to the size you would like, then
right click on the title bar -> More actions -> Special Application
Settings...

When the new window pops up select the "Size & Position" tab, then
check the box next to "Size" and set the drop down list across from it
to "Remember".

You can also set Position to the same thing, but then dolphin would
always open up on top of each other.  If you leave them off, other
windows till be places by the windows manager appropriately.

Now dolphin should automatically reopen with the last size it was
closed with.  You can also set it to always open at the same size so
matter what size it was closed with... powerful stuff!

I have Kubuntu 13.04 installed on this machine with KDE 4.11.0 and
Dolphin 2.2.  When I launch Dolphin, it remembers the size when I last
resized it.  However when I maximize then restore; it doesn't go back to
the size it was before.  It goes back to the correct width, but only a
little over half the height.  I've spend several hours messing with it
with no luck.  Any ideas?

Thanks
