ipchains, portfw and aliased IP's

Is there a way to get portfw to work on an aliased IP. I need to bind about
50 IP's to the public NIC on my firewall and portfw from them, but when I
tested it out it did not always work. Is it true that you cannot portfw
from an alias IP?? Thanks for any insight on the situation.
