Assigning IP addresses to ethernet cards permanently

Hello,

I am trying to assign multiple addresses to my external ethernet card. I am
able to do it with ifconfig. The problem is -- I loose them next time when I
reboot.

How do I assign them permanently? I am using kernel 2.4(SuSE 7.1)
