Buttons in mozilla prefrences

In mozilla prefrences->Navigator
Do you know where I'm talking about? Well, in the sections that have you
choose items (example- in "Select the buttons you want to see in the
toolbars") is a checkmark supposed to appear next to them? Mine are blank and
a checkmark or 'x' do not appear next to them when I select a button. PLUSSS,
now the buttons in mozilla are gone.
