Okay first OO has its own version control (go to File -> Version). Next
OO doesn't save as a binary its really just compressed XML you turn
compression off at Tools->Options->Load/Save. (remember that if you
embed any objects that unlike MS office they aren't really made part of
the document there is just a link to the object). And lastly subversion
is supposed to work great with binary files. I'm using subversion now
but honestly haven't used it with binary files yet.
