Debian Woody is Alive and Well, ... Now For Some "Security"

The installation process (CD's) remarked that while Debian is installed, security should be dealt with.

I am open to suggestions as to what that means:

On a box serving primarily as a Samba 3.x server (print and file), with KDE for occasional use (demonstrations - Login jdoe, InstallFests per Alexander) and administration by a newbie from the MS world.

And, on a box whose mission is Desktop.

Please point me.
