Unicode support for smbfs!

Does anybody know of unicode support patches for smbfs in 2.4.22 kernel (default FC1 kernel)? I heard smbfs in kernel 2.6 supports unicode but before going that far of upgrading kernel I'd like to patch the smbfs in 2.4.22 kernel and see if it works for me. I know that cifs supports unicode but I couldn't get that working on this default FC1 kernel. Anybody knows of unicode patches for smbfs??
